Breaking Down Autism Myths: How the Autism Resource Centre is Making a Difference

As parents, caregivers, and educators, we all want what is best for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Unfortunately, many long-standing myths surrounding the condition have not been debunked. That's where the Centre for Autism’s resources in Singapore comes in.

Total Communication is committed to being the best with having Autism resources at our centre in Singapore. We go beyond simply using evidenced-based approaches, as we strive to deliver the most up-to-date findings and blend research into our clinical practice. Despite the abundance of information available, there are still long-standing myths about autism spectrum disorder that have not been entirely debunked.

These include assumptions about

  • Poor eye contact

  • Missed opportunities for intervention

  • Lifelong high/low support needs

However, we understand that autism spectrum disorder is a complex condition, and we believe in exploring lesser-known aspects that can be equally critical. For example, research has shown that the sense of self is often impaired in those with autism spectrum disorder, and helping parents build episodic memory in children can make a significant difference. Additionally, autism spectrum disorder is a breakdown in the ability to process information, making it crucial to slow down and focus on continual processing to help individuals make connections.

At Total Communication, we understand the importance of staying informed and staying ahead of the curve in our field. We believe in empowering our clients and their families with the latest knowledge and tools to help them thrive. Come discover what sets us apart and how we can help you on your journey.
